“What Are YOU Seeing?”

Nov 9, 2025    Dr Sam Murray

This powerful exploration of John chapter 6 challenges us to examine what we truly see when facing life's overwhelming circumstances. The miracle of feeding the 5,000 isn't just about physical bread—it's about perspective. When the disciples looked at thousands of hungry people, they saw an impossible problem: not enough money, not enough food, not enough resources. Philip calculated that eight months' wages wouldn't suffice. Andrew found a boy with five loaves and two fish but immediately dismissed it as inadequate. Yet Jesus saw something entirely different: a teachable moment, an opportunity to reveal His divine provision. This story confronts us with an uncomfortable question: Are we focusing on our limitations or on God's limitless power? In our daily lives, we're constantly bombarded with problems—financial struggles, relationship challenges, health concerns, national crises. Like the disciples, we calculate our resources and find them wanting. But Jesus demonstrates that when we simply obey His instructions, He multiplies what seems insufficient into overwhelming abundance. The twelve baskets of leftovers weren't accidental—they were a deliberate sign that God provides more than we can imagine. As we approach seasons of thanksgiving and reflection, we must learn to see beyond our circumstances to the God who works within them, transforming our meager offerings into miraculous provision.
